MUSHROOM MAGIC: FUNGI OF AUTUMN FORAGE AND FEAST

Join us for our Autumnal Foraging Walk & Woodland Picnic, celebrating the captivating world of mushrooms and the abundance of other incredible wild foods and medicines that the season brings.

Led by Cowdray’s Estate Forager, George Linklater, this event invites you to delve into the enchanting realm of fungi, exploring their vital role in the ecosystem and their delectable place in our kitchens. We will also be discovering the season’s wealth of nuts, seeds, and late-season fruits that are so important for our wellbeing at this time of year – all whilst enjoying the golden hues and brilliant colours of Autumn.

We will explore the forests and fields as they burst into life with a variety of wild fungi that the ancient parkland has to show. George will guide you through different habitats sharing his knowledge on how to identify, harvest, and prepare these autumnal gems. You’ll learn about the intricate relationships that fungi form with trees and plants, and why they are so crucial to the health of our forests.

After our foraging adventure, we’ll gather in a scenic woodland spot for a rustic wild food picnic feast, featuring some of the ingredients we’ve collected. George will prepare simple and delicious dishes, celebrating the unique flavours and nutrients of autumn’s harvest.

Sample menu:
Wild pickles and preserves with locally sourced cheese
Maitake/Chanterelle mushrooms with Garlic and Herbs
Wild seed focaccia
Wild foraged salad
Seasonal dessert
A range of seasonal drinks such as elderberry and blackberry tonic or douglas fir tea

This circular walk will last approximately 3 hours with a 1 hour picnic. The walk is suitable for all levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned foragers.
